Theatre & Entertainment

Overlapping with my computer work in the early 1990s, and as a temporary ‘diversion’ from keyboard, screen and boardroom, I worked professionally in various entertainment and theatre technical management positions. This experience honed my people and project management skills in getting the best out of dealing with new individuals and situations on a regular basis and included activities in the areas of: In 2006 I will be acting as the Technical Director for the charity event "Night of the Senses" in September.

As Company Stage Manager I have toured the following productions. In each case I was solely responsible for finding and booking accommodation, arranging travel, overseeing fit-ups and get-outs, liaising with venue management and technical personnel, undertaking re-lights and set reconstruction in accordance with the designer's wishes. Additionally I undertook the writing of production reports, general admin duties operating the ITC contract and including the payment of the cast, calculating (and avoiding!) infringement and subsistance payments. I have also taught Sound Engineering, including board operation, for Irish Festival Radio and Brazen Radio. Additionally I spent some time as a temporary technician at the Arts Educational School where I was stage supervisor for the musical course's production of The Beggars Opera (Gay). My 1993 tour also included teaching days in Derby (Wilmorton College) and Nottingham.
